This piece is inspired by the experience of working through and growing past mental illness. New life can grow from past wounds and heal us in a way that leaves us completely new to how we were before these experiences. To represent this growth I used healing flowers such as chamomile and st. john’s wort. The red string that is thread throughout the hand represents a life line and shows that the hand connects to something greater. It is knotted and tangled in various places to represent the idea that life is never a straight path and can get messy along the way, but will always continue.
